What does it mean to have faith in Christ? What is faith?

In the scriptures we read that "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)

Faith is a belief that something is real without being able to see it. Although we can not see God or Jesus Christ we can still feel of There love and that is how we can have faith. I like to think of it as the wind. We cannot see the wind nor can we really touch it. But we can feel it, and we can see the effects of the wind blowing. The grass in a field swaying with the wind on a beautiful summer day. The trees moving and the leaves shaking as the wind rushes through. When we have faith in Christ we believe that He is the Savior of the world and that if we follow his commandments and his teachings we can have eternal life, which is to live forever in the presence of God. Through faith you know that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world. And you trust Christ and his words.

What can we do with faith?

"And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me." (Moroni 7:33)

If we have faith in Christ we can do anything He as asked us to. I have often had people tell me that it is impossible for them to quit their addictive habits. But through faith you can apply His Atonement and feel of His love. And He can heal us of our troubles, our sorrows, and our heartaches. as we obey His words we are blessed. He gives us the power and strength to meet life's many trials.Through faith in Jesus Christ, He can heal us both spiritually and physically.

Is faith dormant, or something with in us?
"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." (James 2:17-18)

If we have faith in Christ we MUST repent! That is the "works." If we do not follow Christ and do what He has commanded, we don't have Faith in Him. And we reject the very sacrifice He has made for our sins. We must believe in Him, and believe Him. Believe that he can heal us and take away the guilt and pain of our sins. Then we have to turn from our sins vowing never to commit them again and then live righteously. And If we do these things and call upon God and ask for forgiveness "and come unto me with a ^abroken heart and a contrite spirit," great shall be our reward in the Kingdom Of Heaven.

How can we grow our faith?
"And behold, ye do know of yourselves, for ye have witnessed it, that as many of them as are brought to the knowledge of the truth... and are led to believe the holy scriptures, yea, the prophecies of the holy prophets, which are written, which leadeth them to faith on the Lord, and unto repentance, which faith and repentance bringeth a change of heart unto them" (Helamen 15:7)

Our faith grows as we read the words of thoughts who teach and testify of Christ and as we learn from others about Him.
